With the continuous rise in the use of mobile devices all over the world, businesses are increasingly realising the important role of SMS marketing in achieving their goals. SMS marketing is a broad field that encompasses many areas, such as SMS gateway appointment reminders, security, OTPs, SMS APIsI, and retail SMS.
Understanding and adopting these and other variants of SMS marketing can be helpful in a variety of ways.
SMS Gateway Appointment Reminders
SMS appointment reminders are helpful text messages that remind or notify customers about future commitments, sales, and other important events regarding your company. They enable clients to easily and quickly confirm, cancel, or reschedule appointments while preventing no-shows that impact your business negatively.
These reminders are great for dental clinics, salons, and personal trainers seeking innovative ways to optimise client engagement and drive business growth.
Benefits of SMS Appointment Reminders
Automated SMS appointment reminders offer several perks, including but not limited to the following:
- Keeps clients informed
- Reduces front office employee stress
- Increases potential earnings
- Enhances customer satisfaction
- Boosts communication efficiency
- Saves time, money, and other resources
SMS gateways are a secure and reliable way to send SMS appointment reminders to customers. An SMS gateway provider is a business that offers SMS services to other businesses. SMS gateways make it possible to send bulk messages, such as appointment reminders, to all your clients in one go.
SMS gateway providers utilise a variety of security measures to protect your data. Examples include two-factor authentication (2FA), encryption, and firewalls.
Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security by mandating users enter a code sent to their mobile device.
Encryption is the process of transforming data into a coded format to guard against unauthorised access.
Firewalls help prevent unauthorised access to your system by blocking unwanted traffic.
OTP SMS
One-Time Password (OTP) SMS is a security mechanism through which an extra layer of security is added to your SMS messages. A typical OTP SMS message is automatically generated with a code that the recipient must enter to verify his or her identity. OTP SMS messages are usually valid for a short time, often 5-10 minutes. This helps in preventing unauthorised access.
OTP SMS messages are widely applied in online banking, fintech companies, e-commerce, online education, and other areas that prioritise security.
Benefits of OTP SMS
If you are always security conscious, the following reasons should make you subscribe to OTP SMS:
- Two-factor authentication
- User data verification
- Higher security
- Fraud prevention
- Alternative for passwords
- Identification and blocking of robots
SMS API
SMS Application Programming Interface (API) enables businesses to send and receive SMS messages in real-time through their own software applications. Via an SMS API, a company can integrate SMS functionality into its systems through software programmes like enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM).
The real-time nature of SMS API makes it valuable in situations that require instant communication. On the whole, SMS API providers offer a variety of services that include number validation, message tracking, and delivery reports.
Benefits of SMS API integrations
SMS APIs are popular because of the various benefits they confer on users. Some of these pros include:
- Greater efficiency through automation
- Real-time capability
- Better visibility and tracking
- Reliability, fast delivery, and security
- Scalability
Retail SMS
Retail SMS involves the sending of SMS messages by businesses to their customers for a number of purposes, including the promotion of products and services, sending offers and discounts, and providing information about new products or services, among others.
Receivers of retail SMS messages usually opt-in to receive such messages from the sender. Retail SMS messages are meant to be concise, with a clear CTA to motivate the recipient to take action.
Benefits of Retail SMS
Below are some major reasons several businesses find retail SMS very attractive.
- Personalised messaging
- Better customer engagement
- Increased customer acquisition
- Higher conversions and sales
- Cost-effectiveness
Factors to Consider Before Choosing an SMS Gateway Provider
Choosing an SMS gateway provider is an important decision that deserves careful consideration. Below are some essential considerations before selecting an SMS gateway provider.
Global Reach
Ideally, your gateway provider should have the capacity to connect with a lot of networks around the world. The more mobile phone networks and hubs you are connected to, the more SMS campaigns you can undertake.
Type of API
REST API is a popular API that is widely patronised across the industry. It is characterised by adequate security, quicker communication, scalability, and overall superior performance.
Your API should be a well-documented, intuitive API that allows quick and easy integrations with existing or new code bases. It should also be characterised by account-specific API Keys in addition to enforcing HTTP to ensure account security. Finally, you should be able to enable or disable the API keys to control your SMS traffic.
Operational Ease
A good SMS gateway integrates seamlessly with your business systems to ensure easy usage. Usability is important if you desire to save time and resources.
High SMS Throughput
SMS throughput measures the number of text messages an SMS provider can send each second. The higher the throughput, the more the number of text messages you can send to clients timely.
Try to estimate the number of messages you’ll be delivering (as well as the delivery speed) and research thoroughly to verify that the SMS provider you choose is capable of meeting your demands.
Outstanding Customer Support
The nature of customer support offered by SMS gateways can vary. While some provide online assistance only via an SMS chatbot or knowledge base, others connect you with dedicated human support staff through phone or video calls.
