SETUP

Connected in two minutes

In touchSMS, go to Settings > API Keys and create a key. Join the Token Id and Token Secret with a colon, then add the server to your MCP client:

claude mcp add --transport http touchsms https://app.touchsms.com.au/mcp \

Endpoint: https://app.touchsms.com.au/mcp. Any client that supports remote HTTP servers with a custom Authorization header will work.
USE CASES

Ask for it, don't build it

  • Alerts from your dev tools

"Text the on-call engineer that the deploy failed." Send from the editor or terminal you already have open.

  • Reply triage

"Summarise today's SMS replies and list anyone asking for a call back." Your assistant reads the inbox for you.

  • Contact capture

"Add Jordan Lee, 0412 345 678, to the VIP group." Contacts go straight into touchSMS.

  • Wiring up integrations

"Send delivery receipts to our webhook endpoint." Set up webhooks without opening the docs.

IN CONTROL

Built to be safe

  • Cost preview firstYour assistant is told to check sender IDs and estimate the cost before it sends, so you can see the price and say no.
  • Opt-outs respectedMessages honour your opt-out lists, and duplicates to the same recipient can be rejected.
  • Your account onlyThe server acts as the account that owns the API key, with the same rate limits as the API. It never sees other accounts.
  • Revoke any timeDelete the key in Settings > API Keys and access stops straight away. The page also shows when each key was last used.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI assistants use outside tools. The touchSMS MCP server gives assistants like Cursor and VS Code a set of SMS tools they can call on your behalf.

Which apps does it work with?

Any MCP client that can connect to a remote HTTP server and send an Authorization header, including Cursor, VS Code and command-line coding assistants. There is nothing to install or run locally.

What does it cost?

Nothing extra. Messages you send through it are charged at your normal touchSMS rate, from 5c per SMS (ex GST). Reading replies, contacts and your balance is free.

Can my assistant send messages without asking me?

It can only do what your MCP client allows. Most clients ask you to approve each tool call, and the server tells the assistant to estimate the cost before sending. Treat your API key like a password, because anyone who has it can send messages and spend credits on your account.

Where do I get the token?

Sign in to touchSMS and go to Settings > API Keys. Create a key and join its Token Id and Token Secret with a colon: token_id:token_secret.

Can I use it for the same things as the API?

For everyday messaging, yes: sending, scheduling, MMS, contacts, replies and webhooks. For building it into your own software, use the SMS API directly.
